Wow, what an amazing year full of suspense, excitement, pressure, new people and, most of all, guidance. An incredibly educational year at the Drummers Institute is now coming to an end. This time last year, I could never have imagined what I’d get to learn there. I’m truly overwhelmed by the amazing experience, and already miss it! When the course began at the end of August 2019, I was unsure whether I’d be able to do it and whether it was the right thing for me… After a year of discipline, hard work and perseverance with my favourite instrument, I now know that I couldn’t have spent this year better anywhere else. A huge thank you to all of my lecturers: Michael Mertens, Jan Rohlfing, Eric Harings, Andy Gillmann, Wolfgang Diekmann, Jürgen Schuld, Alfonso "Poncho" Valdes, Hendrik Lensing, Manni von Bohr, Martin Hesselbach, Ralf Gustke, and many more.

To make sure that drum lessons could continue to take place even in the midst of the Corona crisis, students and teachers from the Drummer's Institute decided to have lessons online. My lecturers from the Drummer's Institue have provided me with work to complete and I have also been keeping my own students busy. Overall, online teaching has worked better than expected. So far it has been a great and interesting experience. Nonetheless, we would all be happy if it were possible for lessons to take place in the rehearsal room again. In the photos you can see two of my students, my online class set-up and my lecturer Andy Gillmann from the Drummer's Institute. They highlight how online lessons can be offered if, for example, teachers and students live too far apart or if the lecturer is away and needs to teach on the go. |
